The drawbacks of living under a feudal society

The drawbacks of living under a feudal society. Common people in no other civilization have been subjugated the way they have been in China. This enforced subjugation for millennia under the state authorities have created a society of pliable masses, that can't even speak out their minds openly for the fear of reprisal from the state. The rulers may find these amenable masses easy to handle but it hinders the natural growth of a society. The masses grow like neat and clean bonsai plants whose roots are routinely cut to keep them from out growing the pots they are planted in. This produces miniatures of the plants. I see the Chinese society as a bonsai of people with stunted psychological growth, emotion capabilities and spiritual abilities.
It is a sorry state for human beings to be in. Almost like animals on a farm compared to animals in the wild.
This is not the handiwork of just the communist regime. But even before communism was introduced in China, the people were living in more or less in a similar state under their ruling dynasties. One can deduce that from the famous example of BodhiDharma visiting China in the 5th century. BodhiDharma did not find the condition of the Chinese people condusive of imparting the spiritual knowledge and did not enter the kingdom and stayed outside the boundries of the Chinese Kingdom, and it is said he did not see or talk to anyone for the next nine years and used to sit in his mountain dwelling facing a wall. And in his last days he had to escape from his monestry from a murder attempt on his life. An enlightened person is like a mirror. He reflects the state of the person in front of him.
This awryness towards religion and spirituality that makes a society incompatible with changes that take place with the flow of the time. The capacity to accept enlightenment keeps a society abreast with the changes that the time brings.  This constant refreshing of one's mental, emotional and spiritual understanding keeps India ahead of the curve in the fast paced global churning in the civilizations. And the lack of this constant inner transformation makes each generation obsolete and in loggerheads with every other set of people.
